NAVUA ensured they return home with maximum points when they defeated Rewa 2-0 at a wet and muddy Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

Goals from Siga Ali and Simione Maikali in the second half was enough to see the Gurjeet Singh-coached Navua side return to winning form in the 2010 National Soccer League.

Both teams found it hard to adapt to the wet and heavy underfoot conditions in Nausori and never settled down as passes never reached the target, and players losing control due to the slippery ground.

Rewa started strongly and had a lot of quality possession inside the Navua half in the first half but they never managed to get past the tough defense led by sweeper Pene Erenio.

The Rewa strikers of Jesoni Takala and Veresa Toma were fed some good balls inside the Navua half but they could never find a way past the Navua defense.

Navua on the other hand tried hard with the few balls they took into the Rewa half but the finishing touches was not there.

The Navua danger combination of Sailosi Livitalo and Maciu Dunadamu worked hard but they just could not find the perfect way to break down the brick wall defense led by Simione Tamanisau at goalkeeper.

The two teams went for the halftime break level nil all.

Navua came strong in the second spell and Ali opened their account when he fired in a powerful right footer which Tamanisau just couldn't stop.

After the goal Navua began to lift the tempo of the game and started sending long through passes into the Rewa territory.

Ali found his way past three Rewa defenders on the right and sent in a perfect cross which found Mailkali outside the Rewa penalty area and he smacked in a hard low shot which left Tamanisau no chance of stopping.

Rewa sent in coach Marika Rodu but the former national rep just could lift his team's performance as he failed to combine with his players.

The 2-0 scoreline never changed until the final whistle.
