The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation has welcomed the proposal that a US based Coach Maurice Leitzke will help our national basketball team for the Pacific games next year.
US based local player Wage Tureke said his US Coach is willing to assist Solomon Islands in preparation in the upcoming South Pacific Games.
Mr Tureke is now working on the initial plan of sorting out paper work with the SIBF in preparation for Mr Leitzke’s arrival in the country.
He said Mr Leitzke will provide assistance free of charge but would require assistance from SIBF for Airfares, accomodation and transpotation whilst staying in Honiara.
SIBF Secretary Lysa Wini told Star Sports that they are working closely with Mr Tureke to discuss ways to help bring Mr Leitzke.
“SIBF will start looking for ways to raise funds to help with funding of accommodation and transportation for the Coach,” Mrs Wini said.
Local businessman Thompson Tureke also pledged his support to the initiative.
SIBF said they will hold a formal meeting with Mr Tureke for further discussion on the issue.
Meanwhile they said Mr Tureke will begin preparation trainings prior to the Coach’s arrival.
Mr Leitzke is schedule to travel to the Solomon Islands in May next year.
