The country’s 2007 O-league rep Koloale Football Club (FC) is back again to represent Solomon Islands for the next O’league season.
This came after a ninety minutes battle with power house Solomon Warriors FC in the 2010 National Club Championship grandfinal match on Saturday.
The match featuring some of the well known players of the tournament such as Benjamin Totori, Henry Faárodo, Lency Saeni, Brian Feni, Coleman Wasi, and Ian Paia to name a few attracted the most number of crowds since the beginning of the tournament ended with a score of 2-1.
Solomon Warriors shocked Koloale in the opening two minutes with a free kick from Chris Tafoa that went right to the bottom of the goal post but keeper Sameul Ramoni was there in time to tap it out.
A minute later Koloale still fresh with their one touch football manage to set a through ball upfront that found guest player Totori who slided past the defenders to give his side their first goal of the match.
That first goal made Koloale feel a little more comfortable in their seat.
Despite the first goal from their opponent Solomon Warriors more desperate to equalize send more attacks trying to penetrate Koloale’s defense.
Koloale knew that the Warriors had the advantage of their height played ground ball most of the time and avoided fouls.
The first half was then wrapped up with a score of 1-0.
After the second spell Warriors came back with extra force, more breaks from Gibson Daudau from the right and Coleman Wasi made Koloale’s defense shaking.
It did not take long for the Warriors to find their equalizer which came from Coleman Wasi.
After the equalizer it was anybody’s game, pressure was building up on both sides that forced both teams to put on their last strength and best performance.
Solomon Warriors controlled the game disallowing careless mistakes, Koloale’s sneaky players were watching every move.
Towards the dying minutes of the last half the game grew tense, chances from both sides were not utilized.
Koloale’s blessing of the day came when Totori was fouled in the penalty box which the referee awarded a penalty with no hestitation.
However the penalty taken by Faárodo was blocked by Warriors keeper but the ball was deflected back only to find Faárodo to complete his assignment adding one more goal Koloale’s scoreboard.
Warriors more worried with the final whistle just minutes away increased their game pace only to end up with two red cards which put them down.
The final whistle then signals the end of the battle with the final scores 2-1.
Koloale was awarded a cash prize of $25, 000 dollars 30 Gold medals and a trophy.
Warriors second with a cash prize of $12, 500and 30 Silver medals.
Meanwhile Kossa FC booked the third place of the club championship after out classing Rendova Devon 4-2 in the loser’s final match on Saturday.
Kossa’s youngsters Micah Leálafa, Jack Whitney, Philip Ashley and Bebeu were among those who overthrew Rendova Devon in their match on Saturday.
Rendova Devon tried hard and played well but with more exposed and experienced players on the other side they were unable to over come Kossa’s might.
Kossa FC at third place received a cash prize of $8000 dollars and 30 Bronze medals.
Rendova Devon FC came fourth in the tournament with a cash prize of $5000- dollars.
The golden Boot award was awarded to Benjamin Totori with a total of 11 goals a cash prize of $1000.
Fair Play team was awarded to Habour Lights FC of Malaita a cash prize of $2000.
And the player of the tournament was awarded to Steve Saru of Koloale FC.
During the presentation SIFF President Martin Alufuraifirstly thanked Our Telekom the major sponsor and all participating clubs, business houses, supporters, coaches, referees, Media and the Police for making the tournament such a success.
Our Telekom CEO Loyley Ngira concluded that Solomon Islanders should continue to keep the standard of football high at all times and keep the passion of football our country has.
He added that Our Telekom through its continous support for football will bring to the country the live coverage of the World Cup games all 64 of them.
Meanwhile Koloale will now gear up for the next O-League which will kick off later this year.
