Koloale Community High school defeated the rugby 15’s defending Champions White River Community High school 21-12 in the opening match of the High schools rugby 15 on Friday at the Panatina rugby pitch.
The match kicked off with the both teams more determined to win the opening match of the tournament.
White River as the defending champions showed classic rugby skills in the first half of the match coming close to making a try but Koloale knew its best to deny their chances.
Berry was Koloale’s hero that day; he scored three penalties, made a try, and also made the conversion which adds to a total of 16 points.
Koloale in the first half manage to get 15 points before the first half was wrapped up.
White River came back after the spell with more force and managed to get two tries from George Kaipua and Solly with another conversion by Jipson.
Koloale then extended their lead when they scored one more try and kicked one more penalty to take the lead until the final whistle with the end result of 21-12 infavour of Koloale high school.
According to Nick Hatigeva he said this year’s competition starts off with a very high note so right now it’s kind of difficult to predict who’s going to be the new champion for 2010.
The level of game is much higher now compared to the previous years.
Students are used to more contact in rugby games and it shows that they love it.
So far this year there has been only six teams registered compared to last year with seven teams.
This is the fourth year the SIRUF has been running High School Rugby 15’s.
The chances for other schools to register for the rugby 15 league is still open till the end of next week.
