Auskick the Australian Football clinic has started playing with their goal posts on Saturday at the Honiara High Scool playing field.
HKL representative Mr Steve told the media that the new goal posts were sponsored by the HKL with the help from Island Enterprises Ltd for providing the pipes.
RAMSI Coordinator Graeme Wilson and once an experienced player told Star Sports that the Aussie Football clinic Auskick first started in 2006 but they haven’t been playing with the proper goal posts.
“Now we are more than happy to play using proper goal posts and not the soccer goal posts anymore,” he said.
Aussie Football has so far attracted about 50-60 children from the local communities around Honiara which attended the clinic.
Interested player down to the age of 7 were present during the clinic.
Mr Wilson said the Australian Football clinic Auskick will now get more support abroad.
The clinic has had a positive outcome in their training programmes with our local players.
One of the clinics biggest achievements was one of our local players Freddie Una who will leave for Australia on the 12th of June this week to attend different tournaments combined with other pacific representatives who have been selected to attend the same programme.
Freddie will spend at least a month in Australia travelling from Brisbane, Melbourne and to Sydney.
The opportunity that Freddie got shows the opportunity to other Solomon Islands that are interested to continue and train hard and will eventually get the chance to play international Aussie football matches.
Mr Wilson also added that next week they will hold a meeting after the normal Auskick program to elect new members to form a board.
The board will help in spreading the interests and teaching of the rules of the game to schools and to move to the provinces.
