LUAPEL have kicked off their 2010 Rugby Union season with an impressive win after escaping a shark attack from the Henderson Hammerhead Sharks on Monday.

The more skillful and speedy Luapel proved too strong for the sharks defeating the sharks 13-5 in a match played in muddy conditions at the Panatina Oval.

The match kicked off with high anticipation as both teams looked for a win.

It was pure hard and physical rugby in the first few minutes of the game and the wet and slippery conditions did not help at all as there were a lot of handling errors by both teams.

But it was Luapel who found the try line midway through the first half with an unconverted try after well executed set play by the Luapel backline.

However, this did not stop the hammerhead sharks as they kept on hitting hard on the Luapel defense.

With just minutes on the clock before half time, the sharks were awarded a penalty which saw their player Harris diving over the line after an impressive played set piece.

Unfortunately, the try was unconverted.

Both teams went for the break with the scores locked at 5 all.

The second half was even more physical as both teams searched for a victory in the final 40 minutes.

The sharks desperate looking for one more try saw their hopes shattered as Luapel ran in one more try and kicked a penalty to lead 13-5.

The score remained until the final buzzer.

Luapel was given credit for their win as they produced a stunning display of rugby.

Match statistics showed Luapel dominating the scrums whilst the hammerheads controlling most ball possession and territory.

Hammerheads have seen the game as a loss that they would work on to build on their weaknesses.

Scrum will be on the top of the list as they begin training for their next match.

The sharks next game will be this Saturday against SOSA a well respected veteran team that have been in the competition since its birth.

SOSA has proved to be very effective and tough in all departments and it will not be an easy ride for the sharks.
