Nauru, Fiji boxers to face locals

The Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Association (SIABA) will host Nauru and Fiji in a boxing championship in a month or so.

A date for the championship is expected to be decided this weekend at a meeting organised by SIABA.

The competition will feature boxers within the range of the light-fly weight to super heavyweight

The upcoming competition is also important to prepare the local boxing team for the next year’s Pacific Games in New Caledonia.

As such SIABA has called on all the national boxing officials and selected squad to attend a very important meeting at Francis Haisoma’s residence near St John School, Rove this Saturday 21st August  at 9am.

“The meeting is to set a date for the Nauru and Fiji national boxing teams to compete with our national select team in Honiara,” the statement from SIABA said yesterday.

The meeting will also be attended by some of the boxers who have been selected during the recent Auki Games.

Boxers selected during Solomon games at Auki are as follows;

  4. Willie McNicol
  5. Francis Nasisi
  6. Lawrence Pauna
  7. James Teube
  8. John Maetala
  9. Rukumana
  10. Larry Pauna
  11. Francis Pauna
SIABA Executive to meet the team are:

  4. John Firifote
  5. Frank Riqa
  6. Junior Bainivalu
  7. Fa’ako Liolea
  8. Kevin Maisa

Selected boxers not in Honiara are advised to contact their provincial executives at these respective places.
