This was revealed by RAMSI Special Coordinator Graem Wilson over the weekend.
Mr Wilson had been instrumental in conducting AFL courses and training courses in Honiara every Saturday.
Every Saturday Mr Wilson with some 20 volunteers from the RAMSI military and police contingents have been helping out in conducting AFL football training and games at KGVI.
“We are hoping to raise the money, with support from some local businesses, to be able to send the first ever Solomon Islands AFL team to participate in an important Under 16 regional tournament in Tonga in December,” he said.
Recently one of the first local player was sent to Australia for several weeks of competition and tour around Australia while playing against top AFL team there.
