SUVA (FIJTIMES) AS the national sevens team prepares to leave the country today, coach Iliesa Tanivula says they will need to utilise their strong poi-nts in the upcoming IRB Sevens World Series in Adelaide and Hong Kong.
Tanivula said there had been a lot of emphasis for the team to open up play at training this week.
Tanivula said it had be-en proven that the team scored more tries when the ball was passed around.
He said in the warm-up with USP this week, emphasis was put on trying to retain the ball for as long as possible.
"There's no change in our game plan and this has been the way we've been playing," Tanivula said.
"In all our games the boys have been trying to implement our game pl-an. Statistics show that when we put more emphasis on moving the ball around, we have managed to score tries."
Tanivula said this was evident when they won the New Zealand Sevens in Wellington last month.
"That's the way we are going to play."
Tanivula said if there was a need to change the game-plan then it would be changed.
The Digicel Sevens te-am leaves Nadi tomorrow morning for Adelaide via Sydney.
Tanivula said everything was ready for the assault on the Adelaide leg of the third stanza of the 2009/2010 IRB Sevens Series.
"Training has been go-od and the boys are all looking forward to a powerful performance."
While Tanivula is hap-py that forward Pio Tu-wai has been cleared by the doctors to travel, he said they would miss Seremaia Burotu who has been ruled out because of injury.
Tanivula said Burotu's misfortune had given other players the opportunity to fight for a place in the team.
"Unfortunately he has been dropped due to injury, but yes, Jerry offered a lot to the team .
"That's something we can't get away from as rugby is a physical game and sevens rugby is high intensity where players put their bodies on the line," Tanivula said.
"This is also a great opportunity for the other players to put their hands up and show pride in the Fiji jersey."
Tanivula said he hoped Burotu would recover in time to join the team in the last leg of the series.
The last two tournaments of the 2009/2010 IRB Sevens Series will be played in England and Scotland. Fiji is pooled with Kenya, Papua New Guinea and current World champions Wales in Pool C of competition in Ade-laide.
