On
Sunday Honiara residents were treated to a taste of what its like when the
Festival of Pacific Arts will eventually be staged in Honiara.
The search is now on for the theme song which will be the main song come the opening of the festival and for the two weeks.
Eight artists have showcased their talents and the public witnessed the auditioning process.
Although it was just an audition it had attracted a large number of people who braved the heat and later the rain to see some of our talented and innovative artists.
Such an event had already given so much excitement to Honiara in preparation for the bigger event.
Come the festival event, massive activities and programs relating to cultural shows and other displays will be on showcase for two weeks.
Just imagine the excitement and benefits it would bring to this nation.
We cannot simply give up now but must work harder in whatever way we can.
Not only that but we must support the organizing committee who are working hard to get the preparations done.
Its not going to be easy for the various sub-committees.
Thus our support is important to see this event come into reality.
Its an event which the country is looking forward to and we must not fail to host it.
Despite our preparation running behind schedule, the country must not back down to host the event.
Its time to support the organizing committee as well as the government on this important event.
This event is the second largest to the Pacific Games.
Solomon Islands is honoured to be given this opportunity.
It’s an opportunity to showcase our country’s culture to our regional friends and around the world.
This week we have a team from New Caledonia visiting the country to see how well we are preparing for the event.
Last week the organizing committee have also launched their website site to allow overseas delegates and the public to get an update and provide information on the preparation of the festival.
A fortnight ago the Gao/Bugoto in Isabel hosted a cultural week as part of the festival and so the excitement in the rural areas is also gaining momentum.
Our Melanesian counterparts have also given their support for us to host this important event.
Other donors are on standby to support us.
As time rolls on, the excitement to host the event is getting hotter.
In what capacity we have we must lend a hand in whatever programs and activities or infrastructures that requires our support.
Some of our businesses and companies have already shown their support during the Sunday’s auditioning at Rove and this is a good sign and the way to go in supporting this event.
We should see more companies throwing their support.
The country should also acknowledge SICHE / KGVI for their recognition and support.
This is how things should be done.
We acknowledge the organizing committee and their sub-committees for their work and in getting things organised because its not going to be easy.
The challenge and the pressure will get tougher and heavier as we approach the time to host the event in less than ten months time.
Given these challenges let us all work and support each for this festival which could change this country for ever.
