The result was met with strong opposition and negative reaction from a number of groups.
Few hours later there was heavy crowd on the streets showing their dissatisfaction over the result.
There was total shut down as the city witness the protestors marched through the streets and the public panic.
Thankful the march was conducted in a control manner.
But it was later that angry mobs mostly youths returned from the Government House and clashed with the police near Chinatown.
It was a situation which the police have managed to get under control.
Otherwise it would have been a different story and sad day for Honiara.
This is because we might end up seeing a repeat of what happed in April 2006 when riot broke out with resulted in burning of shops and looting.
But thankful enough the police were well prepared to face the unruly crowd and shut them out from advancing into the city.
Police patrols were confronted at several locations with stones and other objects being thrown at the officers.
Indeed all officers involved in the operation exercised a high level of control and risked their lives.
Eight police vehicles sustained some damages and six police officers were injured.
One officer was taken to the National Referral Hospital and treated for head and facial injuries but was later discharged.
As such we must commend both the local officers with the supporting PPF and RAMSI Military personnel who have all demonstrated tremendous courage and a great degree of constraint when carrying out their duties on Wednesday.
Deputy Police Commissioner Walter Kola said there are several individuals who directly provided information to police which have enabled officer to respond more effectively to the disorder situation.
Appreciation should also go to members of the public who supported police in their effort to restore order during the unrest.
A motion of no confidence is being planned for next week, thus the current political situation remains unstable.
We must therefore support our officers and also assist them where possible to avoid any disturbances.
In the meantime thank you all the police officers and military both from the local force and RAMSI for providing security to our city.
