Dear Editor – I would like to share my view through your
paper that the people are ready for political party system of election in the
country.
The recent strong public support for National Coalition for Rural Advancement (NCRA) government to remain in power, should clearly indicate to our national politicians that the people of Solomon Islands are ready to accept groups of politicians with good development policies and programs.
The strong opposition from public towards the Motion of No Confidence against Prime Minister Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo, is not about the Prime Minister in person but very much about the peoples desire to see the continuity of the NCRA Government because of its good policies and development projects.
The people feared that a change of government could derail NCRA government’s governance which is now being felt in the rural areas of the country.
This is an opportunity for the government to bring back the defeated Political Parties Integrity Bill of 2010 to the floor of Parliament to become a law, in preparation for 2014 General Election.
The proposed Bill may be amended according to NCRA policies, but in my opinion NCRA Government now has an obligation to prepare Solomon Islands to elect a government formed by political parties in 2014.
The aim is to avoid continuous political crises and riots in Honiara and country as a whole when it comes to general elections and the election of a prime minister. Secondly, to give the populace the opportunity to put in power the political party the majority of people believe will govern the country better with its policies and plans.
