North Malaita Christmas games

E-mail Print

Dear Editor -  First of all, let me thank our out-going MP Jimmy Lusibaea and his advisory committee for North Malaita constituency for generously sponsoring such organised sporting activities during that Christmas season.

That event ran smoothly from the start to the end in three days during which all constituents especially youths really enjoyed their time rather than involving in criminal activities.

However, there are few areas that needs to be improved so that future games would end up peacefully.

From my observation throughout the whole tournament for soccer there were bias decision making both from the organising committee and the referees on the field.

For instance in the 7 a side knock out competition round one game 18, we the supporters and spectators have clearly witnessed that AELAN SOUVENIR FC has beaten MALU’U UNITED FC through penalty shoot out by 3 goals to 2.

The organising committee has ground rules to guide the competitions; one of the rules says that the decision made by the referee and assistant referee is the final.

Somehow, we were very surprised to see the two teams made to play for the second time. This means that the organising committee did not apply the FIFA ground rules Olketa fogetem ating? Or maybe the ground rules were made especially for the different teams participating in this particular tournament.

Another area that needs to be improved is about the referee and their assistants. I hope different foot ball clubs that participate in this tournament would agree and satisfy with my comments. Therefore, I appeal to our new MP for North Malaita constituency to take in to account these areas I have mentioned. How meni taems nao bae iumi rafe’rafe.

I suggest that let not Malu’u United FC to host future similar games, let’s try another neighbouring football club like Columbia FC, Aurafu FC or Land owner FC to host future Christmas games. In addition, why not bring in different referees from different regions to officiate the games, so that the players, supporters, and the spectators will satisfy with the decisions made on the field of play. Only if this happens, then for sure, I hope there’ll be no argument, because decisions made are fair because referees are neutral. So to improve soccer in our area (North Malaita) we need to work together to tackle those barriers and unfair decision making that always pull us back.

Hope to see these improvements in the next Christmas games 2012.
