DEAR EDITOR – It is so sad and sickening to note of and see how much some people wanted to beautify our town, only us spoiling it.
One can only walk from King George or from Lunga to Point Cruz to see what I mean.
Every time I board a bus from King George VI School to Point Cruz, I barely looked out the window.
Even when I look, I only looked at the sky! Because when I did, the only things I saw were of betel nut stains on the beautifully painted artistic pot plants and the palms that were meant to give our town a face-lift were chopped down by some people who think the palms were put on the wrong place.
Well, you bet! Only those who did the chopping know their reasons for their actions.
Not to mention the plastics lying here and there!!
Take a walk from China Town to Point Cruz and see how the flowers and plants were destroyed by cigarette buds, betel-nut husks and betel-nut stains!
Walked down to the newly constructed Commonwealth Street path and you will see the betel-nut stains on the walk path!
Grow up people!
Isn’t it hard just to keep your rubbish in your bag and when you came across a bin and then throw them in?
Aren’t your eyes hurt when you see rubbish lying around and the plants that were meant to beautify our town were chopped down?
It is not only the work of the street sweepers to keep our town clean. It is also your duty and mine.
Next time you want to chew betel-nut, go do it at the right place and throw your waste at its intended place.
Next time you smoke a cigarette throw the buds in the bin and for the next time you had your ice block and you haven’t seen any bin insight, keep the plastic and throw it in the bin when you get home! It is as simple as that!
Make a change today, NOW! It is never too late.
You and I can make Honiara an unforgettable town for visitors and most importantly, it is a place for the people of this country to enjoy and be proud of it.
After all, this is our capital.
