Land dispute

E-mail Print
Dear Editor – Land dispute is one of the major problems in the rural areas and the country at large especially those customary lands consented for logging operation and other lands that the government plans to establish future big projects.

Therefore we need to enforce measures to protect our land from disputes and I believe that land is the only key and gateway for our country’s economic development.

The current land dispute in our rural areas actually becomes a threat for government and other investors for the development of our customary lands.

I have no doubt that our chiefs are trying their best as they formed chiefs’ panel but due to lack of cooperation, honesty and reliability, they themselves could not solve the matter.

Therefore I now appeal to our constituency members to be aware of the matter and respond quickly by assisting our chiefs or other independent groups in regards to finance otherwise we may be the same as yesterday, today and forever.

I feel that the amount spent on solar panels and school fees should be used to assist and settle our disputes as school fees are parent’s responsibility and solar panel should be provided after housing scheme.

Think wise to use this one-tenth of the government grant spent on solar panels and schools to promote and prepare our customary lands for further upcoming economic development.

CDF means constituency development fund.   It is not a fund to develop Honiara but our constituencies.

Land must be free from disputes before any development.

We do not have the resources in Honiara but within our customary lands.
