DEAR EDITOR - I read with Interest the piece by Charles Sisima.

He does have a point in saying that some of these criminal activities are consequences of what he described as hygiene and environment issues.

However, attempted murder and aggravated robbery is still despicable and is inexcusable. These thugs should be called what they deserve - THUGS!

If they are Sisimia's blood he should do the decent thing and hand them in to the authorities.

If they have hopes and dreams, then being thugs and thieves is not the best avenue to achieve this.

I think that before we have a national repentance and reconciliation, Mrs Vollrath should be duly compensated for the emotional and physical trauma that she has been through.

Honiara is certainly behaving like a big city with regards to the types of crimes that are occurring. What a shame!

I remember the good old days where as boarding students at KGVI School you can walk down to the Oba store and back at the early hours of morning with no fear!

I think the way forward would be for those people who have no occupations in Honiara to be repatriated back to their home islands, to their villages and tribes to develop their lands!

In this way, if they want to misbehave then it is going to be amongst their own people, and then we will see how they (their relatives) would react to the thuggery and lack of respect that had been dished to others in Honiara.

I know we are a free country but with freedom there are responsibilities and at this point in time we are irresponsible with regards to our behaviour and attitude towards others.

Lastly but not the least, in my opinion we have a long way to go before we become the happy isles again.

At the moment we are negatively dominated by the theft and thuggery that are occurring in Honiara.

Enough is enough!
