DEAR EDITOR - Last week on Star No. 4153 30 January 2010, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mylyn Kuve informed the public that lack of funding has denied many potential students scholarships.
This happened after students who have scored very high, and their concerned parents raise their complaints about the government funded scholarships.
I could believe her words to be true. I, however, would be very understanding if Ms Kuve could clarify her position for the public why the awards look like this.
These information are taken from Star 4151 28 January 2010.
Pre-Services Awards
Malaita 35.85 %; Western 18.24%; Isabel 9.43%; Makira 7.55%; Temotu 7.55%; Guadalcanal 6.3%; Choisuel 6.3%; Central 3.14%; Renbel 2.5%; Honiara 0.63% and No address 2.5%.
In – Service Awards
Malaita 32.5%; Western 10%; Isabel 12.5 %; Makira 5%; Temotu 5%; Guadalcanal 17.5%; Choisuel 5%; Central 5%; Renbel 2.5%; HCC 2.5% and Tamlan 2.5 %.
Total awards (without additional in–service awards).
Malaita 35.18%; West 16.58%; Isabel 10.05%; Makira 7.03%; Temotu 7.03%; Guadalcanal 8.54%; Choisuel 6.03%; Central 3.52%; Renbel 2.51%; Honiara 0.5%; HCC 0.5 %; Tamlan 0.5 % and no address 2.01%.
Ms Kuve, could you please explain to us why the awards looked this way?
Or is this how the Bottom up Approach was executed in your Ministry, or do you have people banging your office door or ringing your phones with their own lists?
I think the increase of awards (budget) requested from the government could never help solve this kind of problem of awards (Y2010) for the future.
