DEAR EDITOR – I would be most grateful if my “letter to the editor” could be posted in your column.
First of all, I would like to thank the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock particularly the Director of Livestock, Barnabas Kenga for his posting carried in Solomon Star some time earlier this year.
Whilst the question of whether or not the Ministry responsible to enquiries regarding the Cattle rehabilitation project and the numerous media critics or questioning of process remains questionable; the public service; particularly the public servants including Director of Livestock, Mr Kenga, are duty bound to inform and clear speculation in the interest of public clarity and trust in the services of the ruling Government and its ministries. There is legislation to protect Solomon Islanders as all Government information and dealings are public privilege in as far as information realised does not incite, provoke or promote disruption of peace, unity and national security.
However, the good news is that reliable sources within the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock have informed that the cattle project will eventuate this year.
The Government has given priority to the project given the upcoming elections and the lack of fulfilling this initiative will have serious backlash on the campaigning trail.
Whilst I am not interested in the political nature of the dealings, I would just like to thank those that have brought this initiative thus far, and look forward to adding some reliable and exotic breeding stock to my current herd.
I would also like to call on our good farmers to start preparations (fencing, stock yard and holding), so as livestock can be easily distributed on arrival given only Malaita and Guadalcanal will receive initial stock; and it is through this avenue that we in other provinces can access your stock.
