Dear Editor-While Hon. Chan and committee along with the constituency Development officer yet to respond in their capacity to the criticism labeled against them by Richard Werner of west Guadalcanal, (Solomon star issue no. 4190) I wish to inscribe my small contribution to the issue highlighted.
If it was true at all that the Solomon Islands Government in collaboration with foreign Aid donors have allocated $8,360,000.00 in total for Rural livelihood fund (RLF), Millennium fund (MF), Micro project fund (MPF), Rural constituency Development fund (RCDF), Special Micro project fund (SMPF), for west Guadalcanal constituency during Hon. Chan’s Eight years reign as member of parliament for west Guadalcanal, as was asserted by Mr Richard Werner, then my assumption is that above 80 percent of that total fund may still be in the hands of the honorable member and his RCDF committee.
I make this assumption because no visible development equivalent to such value has ever taken place in west Guadalcanal.
As Mr Werner has rightly pointed out, we the people of West Guadalcanal are waiting anxiously to see Hon. Chan and his RCDF committee publish in this paper in classified format what portion of the above asserted amount you may have already spend in developing west Guadalcanal constituency and which community received what.
The people in my community also wish to know who qualified and what criteria was employed during selection and screening of projects that have received funding, as nothing tangible is yet to be received for our community for the past 12 years despite launching numerous fund and project applications. Or are we not part of west Guadalcanal constituency?
We hope that our community’s portion of the above asserted amount will be distributed by Hon. Chan and his committee before the 2010 National general election.
We’ll be waiting patiently to receive our share.
In a mean time, in case the honorable member and his RCDF committee may not aware of, let me inform you that the road connecting west Guadalcanal to Honiara has been badly damage by the recent bad weather and requires urgent repair.
Can’t the honorable member for west Guadalcanal and his committee use a portion of the unused funds to assist in repairing this road?
Had your RCDF Committee have had a little bit of vision and use part of that money in maintaining and/or tar sealing of that road and constructing bridges in the past, it could have been not as that worse despite the rainy season.
Currently, your people of west Guadalcanal constituency are in dire need of food as their food gardens were washed away by floods.
Isn’t there any solution from you honorable? People are hungry.
To help you out, I suggest you begin by assisting them with transport both on sea and land so that they can sell what ever product still in their possessions. They will surely reciprocate your assistance by buying imported food like rice and noodle from Chinese shops here in Honiara.
If they don’t have enough marketable products for sell, it could be because of monies allocated to assist them in their income generating projects has never reach them as they may have been diverted to somewhere through some dubious channel. I can smell a rat here.
Your RCDF committees got the answer.
So don’t tell us there is no money for assistance. We are watching.
As the famous reggae singer late lucky Dube once sang, “people are watching, the game is not over, stop telling us lies”
So take heed. We are watching!
