Unfair character assassination

E-mail Print
Dear Editor – Allow me space to express my concern on the above issue.

I have observed that it has become a habit for people who write to the media to attack people instead of issues concerned.

Politics is one issue that sparks a lot of allegation defaming the character of our leaders. In my constituency, East Guadalcanal, people use it against the candidates of the upcoming general elections.

One of the most attacked is former deputy premier for Guadalcanal Province Bradley Tovosia.

I will be straight to you from the start to say that I am a very strong supporter of Bradley Tovosia, but I am not here to argue his case or to deny allegations that are made against him.

I am simply here to say to cowards who enjoy giving punches below the belt, that the lowest way to put yourself up is to put another man down.

To the people who are responsible for the desperate attempts to taint Bradley Tovosia’s image, I have news for you; Bradley Tovosia will win this election and I will tell you why.

I have grown up and worked in the Weather Coast long enough to say that almost 90% of the voters are totally illiterate.

They don’t understand the meaning of a Bachelors degree, master’s degree, doctorate or professor.

Whether you are a lawyer, doctor, rocket scientist or whatever you want to call yourself, these people don’t understand, and they don’t care. Their question will be, what have you done for your people that show your credibility?

The people of the Weather Coast are a people of culture and integrity. They might not have the intellectual capacity like most educated people, but they have inherited thousands of years of wisdom passed down from forefathers as tradition and their way of living.

Qualities they will look for in a leader will be shown in the times when they were hungry and someone fed them; times when they were in desperate need and someone was there to help them meet it; times when they needed a place to stay in town, and someone’s door was always open to them; times when people, old, young, clean, smelly and sick were all accepted and treated with respect.

They look for a leader who is willing to go through good and bad, who has been there with the people in the past and will always be there for the people in the future, someone who gave with no second thoughts and no strings attached.

These are just some of the  things that are observed by the people and I would like to commend Bradley Tovosia on that.

If you have allegations to make, don’t be a coward to hide behind your words on paper, take it to court.

Otherwise, don’t waste your time, or be prepared to get yourself toasted in court for allegations that you have totally no evidence of.

To all you loudmouthed cowards, is that the best you can do? Defaming people of their character?

Then bring it on! Because your desperate attempts to tarnish a reputation is all in vain. I see no point at all in your allegations but only one conclusion would be jealousy.

Wherever you are writing and printing your pamphlets from, I would like to give you a piece of advice.

I know you might be looking for a chance to run in the general elections. Maybe next time you would like to follow in Bradley Tovosia’s footsteps before you could have a chance with your people.

Get off your high chair! “Pipol ae! Naf Jeles na!” Where have you been all this time?

The people have always been there. They are some of the most neglected in the country and have suffered for a long time, do something for them! Stop talking and start doing something for your people.

To Bradley Tovosia, I have only one thing to say,  win or lose, I declare my vote first count on your poll!
