Parliamentarians camping

E-mail Print
Dear Editor - Thank you for allowing my thoughts to be viewed by the public readers.

It has been a norm today that after the election, parliamenterians would regroup and form camps.

Whilst many would argue that this is a show of solidarity, I for one do not seem to come to terms with this explanation.

What happens to the solidarity of parties? Prior to elections, you would see alot of parties going their own way, preaching their manifesto and trying to convince people of their ideology.

Then after the election, elected members' perspectives tend to shift and they drift to different camps.

It seems after the election results, some people tend to change their minds on policies and ideologies they preach during campaigns.

They ended up leaving their parties and join another. Only one conclusion I can draw, some of the parliamentarians are undecisive or may yet be very cunning.

But my main question is why camping out together? Is it to show solidarity or togetherness?

Do you really need to be within each others sights to be trusted? Is it the fear of out 'out of sight, out of mind?'

In that case, how can you claim solidarity and togetherness when you can't trust your members to stay at home during the transition period from being elected to when a government will be formed?

Whilst I understand people have money for the hotel expenses, does solidarity have to cost that extra?

I wouldn't be surprised if in the 11th hour, people still cross camps. But why crossing camps still?

Is it because of money?

Is that what your voters really want?

Whose to benefit?

Camping, crossing camps, I don't get it. Solidarity, and togetherness, I don't buy that neither.

What I do derive from these actions is undecisiveness and cunning personalities. And to demonstrate these qualities before one sets foot in the house, is a very sad and worrying start.

Oh how I long to see the dawn of the era when Solidarity will prevail.

When parties will remain loyal to each other?

When Honorable members will stand shoulder to shoulder?

When Government will see eye to eye? When Solomon Islands will be united?
