Gov’t of the day

Dear Editor – Please allow me space in your column to voice some of my views and concerns on the above matter.

Firstly, may I take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected Prime Minister, Hon. Danny Philip and his newly formed cabinet.

Let us all thank our God Almighty for choosing such a humble, lowly, honest but yet a mindful person to lead our poor, lowly, striving  but yet our happy isles Solomon Islands.

Solomon Islands is a Christian nation, and we’ve been praying eagerly for somebody to lead and to move our country forward.

Mind you Hon. Danny that I have also prayed earnestly, that should it be God’s will, the choice will come your way.

Even on that day 25th August, I called in some of the staff of Honiara Casino, who were working on that day, we went into our workplace, and I said a very short prayer on our behalf.

Thank God that He has answered our prayers.

May I continue to stress out that it has been 32 years now since independence, where is our position now.  Are we climbing up the stairways? Or are we going down the pit?

I think the really answer to those is we are really going down the pit.  The neighbouring countries keep pouring in aid into our country, but where has these gone to?

I might think of some games that our previous politicians have played.
  • They get elected

  • They fill up their wallets

  • They build homes for themselves

  • They drove around in tinted or dark glass hiluxes.  And the list goes on.

May I appeal to you all the 50 elected members of Parliament for Solomon Islands, please do not repeat the system.

Take into account the slogan of the newly elected member of Parliament for West Honiara constituency.

“What belongs to the people goes back to the people.”

Let’s press onward.
