The 2011 O-League season was kick started last Saturday with matches played in Port Moresby, Honiara and Auckland City.
On match-day one, a total of six clubs have taken the fields in their effort to win their first precious 3 points.
Three good matches were played concurrently.
In Port Moresby, Amicale FC of Vanuatu had won their debut match against Hekari FC of PNG, the current champions of the O-League. The final scoreline was 2-1.
The match was an interesting one which saw two former members of Hekari FC, Maemae and Waita playing against their former team-mates and club.
The two have helped Hekari to win the O-League finals over Waitakere in the 2010 season. They have since moved to Port Vila and joined Amicale together with other Solomon boys who have showed their class in Vanuatu by helping Amicale FC to reach the O-League for the first time.
But this victory for Amicale is very important, as the newcomers in this high level competition.
The Solo-Vanuatu combination have produced a good starting result for the club and its owner.
Good on you all our Wantoks from Solomon.
Before the match, the owner of Amicale FC has stated that Armicale does not care and fear too much about the experienced Hekari team but will go out there to prove themselves as they can upset the O League champion.
And they have done just that at Lloyd Robson Oval. Good on you sir.
The match was a real testing for Hekari FC, our Oceania club Champions for the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi in December.
The Hekari FC and its management must have felt the lose of Maemae and Waita after the match. They have paid the price for their poor decisions! AM and SW you too good.
As for Amicale FC, you have started on high note and keep that momentum going for the remaining matches of this O-League campaign.
You have done yourselves some good and us, the local supporters proud.
To the Coach, players and management of Amicale FC, congratulations to you.
Go Amicale Go.
