MEMBERS of Malaita’s provincial assembly executive will undertake a two-day workshop in Auki this week.
Premier Peter Chanel Ramohia told this paper that members of his executive will meet with the head of the Ministry of Provincial Government and Strengthening Program (PGSP) in Auki on Thursday this week.
PGSP’s permanent secretary (PS) and other heads of the ministry will discuss the roles of executive members in the provincial assembly and how best to coordinate and cooperate.
Mr Ramohia said it is important that all executive members know the roles in their given portfolios or ministries.
He added the financial crisis experienced in the past years by past Malaita Province’s executives was due ignorance by members on their roles and responsibilities.
“They failed to satisfy and understand the requirements and processes set by the Ministry of Provincial government in accessing funds for the province.
“As the result, this province failed to tap the PGSP funding in the past years.
“The PGSP funding is very important for the province in terms of infrastructure and Malaita missed out completely on that.”
Mr Ramohia said he is turning a new chapter and making a new start to move the province forward.
“I am sure the workshop will answer a lot of questions and enlighten us on the requirements and processes so that we are aware and can work closely with the Ministry of Provincial government.
“We are working hard and serious in putting this province on a new road map.
“I am happy that members of my executive will be taking part in that workshop.”
