THE National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) on Monday started handing over roofing irons to victims of the April flood residing in the Festival of Arts village at Panatina.
And chairman of the Victims Committee Charles Ketea thanked NDMO for the housing materials.
“This is a positive response from the NDMO to one of our needs,” Mr Ketea said.
Up to 60 families are still living in the village.
Mr Ketea also thanked NDMO for assisting them since the disaster until this week.
Meanwhile, he called on the Ministry of Lands to allow them to move in and build temporary shelters on a site the ministry has promised the victims.
To be called April Valley, the site is located near Mt Austen, east Honiara.
Mr Ketea said although they’ve been given the roofing irons, they don’t know where to build their homes.
“If the government could allow us to move into April Valley while they sort out the processes, it would be really helpful,” he said.
