THE government intends to get the proposed Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) functional by 2016.
This was revealed when a delegation from the Prime Minister’s Office appeared recently before the Pacific Accounts Committee.
PAC members grilled the delegation about the proposal.
The Government recently announced the intention as part of its efforts to fight corruption head-on.
A spokesman for the PM’s office said establishment of ICAC is part of the government’s fundamental reforms to ensure that good governance prevails in order to achieve our national development goals.
He said an anti-corruption bill will come up this year with ground works paving the way for the establishment of this anti-corruption commission.
“So we anticipate the commission to be established and fully operation next year,” the spokesman told the hearing.
