Dear Editor – Mr. William Gua’s revelation in your paper that unnamed foreign businessmen had proped up GCC with a payment of $1.8 million seems to explain government somewhat irrational decisions especially in regards to natural resources.
The case of bauxite mining and logging on Rennel Island immediately comes to mind but also logging and mineral projects in other parts of the country including the nickel project on Isabel
and could also be affecting government decisions in respect of Goldridge on Guadalcanal.
If Mr. Gua’s allegations are true, the PM is giving away the country’s natural resources to his foreign friends at the expense of resource owners and citizens of this country.
Nothing can get more serious than this on matters of governance-This is very bad governance unheard of in Solomon Islands.
The landowners of Isabel has come out to make a statement that they cannot trust those in the
current government in natural resource exploitation on their land. I am aware that Goldridge Communities and Landowners will be coming out soon to make a public statement.
The people of Renbel must unit to protect their natural resources. The Mining Lease on Rennel Island should have never been granted in the first place.
Mr. Gua should be commended for revealing these to the public. These are serious national issues which are best dealt with by people from every province, islands and tribes Mr Gua should realise that tilting arguments towards regionialism and ethnicity could be putting people off and might do very little to further his (Gua) course or the national one.
