Gender workshop for media workers

A TWO days training for media workers to report on Gender based violence against women and girls is set to start tomorrow.

The workshop will run from Thursday to Friday.

“This training is part of UN Women’s activities towards ending violence facing women and girls in the country,” project Coordinator for Solomon Islands Atenasi Wasuka said.

Ms Wasuka added that this also aligned to the Government’s intentions and planning for this year’s 16 days of Activism against Gender-based violence campaign.

She said, the training is for local media workers - print, online, radio and social media and will also include journalism student at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).

The goals fof this training are;

. Raise critical awareness on the ways in which gender-based violence is covered;

. Provide practical tips on reporting gender-based violence;

. Demonstrate more sensitive approaches to covering gender-based violence;

. Generate increased, more gender sensitive reporting on gender-based violence.

Ms Wasuka said that these two days training is very important therefore they expecting media people to attend it.

“All media officers are most welcome to this important training on Thursday and Friday this week,” she added.
