Some results have already been declared yesterday, whilst others are expected in today.
Leading the appeal to the public, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia, The Most Reverend David Vunagi called for sensitivity from both winning and losing candidates and their supporters.
“Everyone must accept the election results with sensitivity,” he said.
“I call on all winning candidates to be sensitive and accept their victories with thanksgiving and humility.
“I also call on losing candidates to concede defeat with thanksgiving and help work together with the winning candidate for the betterment of their constituencies,” Archbishop Vunagi said.
Similar sentiments were made by leaders from various other denominations in the country, calling on all voters, supporters of candidates to demonstrate the similar election spirit they have shown on polling day, adding that such is the peaceful elections Solomon Islands need.
