Bank hits back at Sasako’s claims

20 March 2014

Pan Oceanic Bank (POB) has described claims by former politician Alfred Sasako in a report yesterday as misleading and false.

In an article published in this paper on Wednesday Mr Sasako claimed that POB is running into some difficulties setting up its office here and is trying to establishing a correspondence bank overseas.

But the POB chief executive officer (CEO) Nihal Kekulawala who is in the country denied all information mentioned in the article.

“We are ready to open our doors in May without any setbacks here.

“CBSI is already aware of our business progress and we are really surprised reading the article,” he said.

Mr Kekulawala said POB had all the documents to prove that is has met the requirements to set up here.

“If Sasako wants to prove the bank he should ask CBSI or myself regarding anything about the bank.

“We have done all paper works and bank requirements needed by CBSI and Solomon Island government.”

With the approval by CBSI, the CEO said the bank is ready to operate in the country.

The bank’s chief urged the public who wants to know more about the bank situation to talk with them rather than going to the media.
