The Red Cross Society of China has donated USD$50,000 (more than $300,000) towards the flood relief efforts.

The donation was channeled through the Solomon Islands Chinese Association (SICA), which handed the funds over to the Solomon Islands Red Cross Society, last week.

Along with the funds, SICA also donated mats, which will be distributed to victims.

SICA president Matthew Quan said his association was pleased to assist in this way to help those affected by the April 3 floods return to normalcy.

“This support is our gift and we hope it’s valued to help those affected recover and return to normal life,” he said.

Quan commended Solomon Islands Red Cross for its great work assisting the victims.

Secretary General of Red Cross Joanne Zoloveke thanked the Chinese Association for the assistance and expressed gratitude to the Red Cross Society of China for the kind donation.

“The assistance is a timely one from their appeal to international partners,” she said.

Ms Zoloveke said this is one of donations amongst many, adding Red Cross is overwhelmed by the support it has been receiving from its international partners.

“Despite the slow processes involved in allocating available funds by the government, we are thankful that it hasn’t stopped there.

“Our efforts and determination to give the best in bringing lives to normal for those affected can be done and this support is greatly appreciated,” she said.

Zoloveke stressed the challenges are huge and she is so thankful that Red Cross can still deliver basic assistance through such assistance and support from organisations like the Red Cross Society in China and the Chinese Association of Solomon Islands.
