Tourism ministry supports clean-up campaign

Ministry of culture and tourism yesterday donated $50,000 towards Honiara City Council (HCC) for its clean-up campaign.

Permanent secretary (PS) of the ministry John Wasi handed over the $50,000 cheque to Honiara City Lord Mayor Andrew Mua yesterday.

Mr Wasi said though the money is small the ministry supports the HCC’s clean-up campaign that is currently underway in Honiara.

He said the ministry acknowledged HCC for its job in its continuous effort to clean up the city.

He added the ministry is concern about the image of the city to make sure the city is clean and tidy to attract tourists that arriving in the city.

“Honiara is the gateway for tourists before flying over to provinces and so the ministry is really concern about the image.”

In response Mr Mua acknowledged the assistance.

“I commend the ministry of tourism for this donation which would be utilised for the clean-up campaign.”

He said the tourism ministry is the first ever ministry to donate money towards the campaign.

“On behalf of the HCC, I thank you for this money that we would be spent on our clean-up campaign,” Mr Mua said.

Witnessing the official handing were HCC city clerk Charles Kelly, the ministry’s undersecretary Moses Tepai and project officer Jonathan Bana.
