Dancing under the stars

20 June 2014

THE G’Day Solomon Islands Film Festival continues today with another popular Australian movie, ‘Strictly Ballroom’.

Deputy Australian High Commissioner, Dr Dave Peebles encouraged everyone, not just lovers of dance, to come along.

“Strictly Ballroom is a spectacular Australian comedy filled with dancing, drama and just a little bit of romance” he said.

“This film will sweep you away – it’s inspiring, theatrical and a little bit karange.”

Strictly Ballroom is a romantic comedy about Scott Hastings (played by Paul Mercurio), a champion ballroom dancer, who wants to break-free from traditional ballroom dancing and create his own steps – but his steps are not strictly ballroom. After losing his dance partner Liz because of his unusual new routine, Scott turns to outsider Fran and together, these two misfits set out to win the Australian Pan Pacific Championships.

Over the last two Friday evenings, the Australian High Commission has screened ‘Crocodile Dundee’ and ‘Babe’ providing hundreds of Honiara residents the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor cinema experience in a safe environment.

The screening of ‘Strictly Ballroom’ will commence at 6:30pm this Friday at the Honiara Art Gallery Grounds. It’s important to arrive early to secure a good seat.  Gates will be open from 5.30pm.

Bring along a mat or a chair to sit on to enjoy the movie.  There are only two screenings left for the Film Festival so come along and enjoy while you still can!

Film Festival sponsors Westpac and Szeba have kindly offered to supply some popcorn and water for those who attend to add to the cinema experience.
