World Vision farewells Country Director

WORLD Vision Solomon Islands farewelled Country Director, Dr Andrew Catford and his family yesterday.

Dr Catford has been leading the organisation as Country Director for the past five years. During that time World Vision has experience significant growth and now has seven long term (15 year) area programmes and 30 projects that are benefitting nearly 170 communities throughout the country.

“I am very proud of the WVSI team. Over the past five years I have been privileged to see the World Vision team and program grow and develop considerably,” said Dr Catford.

Dr Catford’s vision, leadership and commitment has enabled World Vision to develop and expand its areas of focus which include maternal and child health & nutrition, economic development, water supply, sanitation & hygiene, gender based violence prevention, education, disaster risk reduction and climate change. Dr Catford also led World Vision’s emergency response efforts following the Temotu tsunami in 2013 and most recently the severe flooding in early April this year.

“I have been proud of how the team responded to disasters over the past years,” said Dr Catford.

“The pivotal role World Vision played during both events is testament to the great team we have, who completed this work while keeping their portfolio of 30 long term projects going as well.”

World Vision Solomon Islands staff and partners wish Dr Catford and his family the best of luck as they head to West Africa where Dr Catford will be taking on a new role as National Director for World Vision Senegal.
