Tertiary students’ final activities

Students studying at various universities will conclude their academy year with sport activities and voluntary work from December 6-13.

Chairperson of the Inter-tertiary committee Clayton Tuimaka said the program will start with a thanksgiving service at St Barnabas Cathedral on December 6, at 4 pm.

Following that the students will carry out a cleanup campaign on December 7th from King George Six to Point Cruz before officially kick off the sport activities on December 8.

Mr Tuimaka said seven sports including soccer, rugby 7s, netball, basketball, volleyball, touch rugby and futsal are been organised.

He said the inter-tertiary event is an annual event hosted for students studying at various universities to unite students and build a healthy environment for the country.

He said the registration fee is SBD$ 1000 and must be paid before the end of this month.

He said while such programme is a fun day for the students the important thing is to give back something to the community.

“Our main idea behind hosting this programme is to give back what we have and at the same time effectively addressing environmental hygiene in the City of Honiara, he said.

Mr Tuimaka said the University students studying at Fiji, PNG, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands are expected to participate in the sport events and voluntarily work.

This year’s event is hosted by the University of the South Pacific (USP) student from Laucala campus in Suva, Fiji.
