LOCAL students studying in Taiwan have expressed their disappointment over the government’s delay in responding to their call not to move them to China following the recent diplomatic switch.

The Solomon Star understands the Minister of Education and Human Resource Development (MERHD) had already received the letter from the students, which was hand delivered to them by their parents here in Honiara.

The letter also includes all their concerns why they would not want to study in China, rather remain in Taiwan.

President of the Student Association, Desmond Tige told the Solomon Star since the letter was sent to their parents, they haven’t heard anything from the government.

Tige said they are now planning to send another letter if there is no respond coming from the government or the Ministry of Education.

Meanwhile, the ministry of education in a query over the issue yesterday said they will soon prepare a press release and send it for publication.

MEHRD CEO (Ag) Constance Nasi said as soon as the letter is prepared and approved by the Permanent Secretary, it would then be released.

“MEHRD has prepared a press release and it will be shared after it has gone through vetting from the PS,” he said.

Tige earlier told the Solomon Star not a single student in Taiwan has agreed with the switch to China.

“Yes, I can confirm that not a single soul here agreed to the idea of the switch,” he said.
