Gizo Police and Police Response Unit (PRU) has warned the public not to get involved or react over the demolishing of the buildings and market stalls at the KHY Seafront.

The Police Officers and the PRU officers have secured the area to safeguard the process of the demolition of the buildings at the KHY Seafront to allow the local contractor workers to demolish properties within the area.

On Sunday afternoon there was a high presence of police officers to monitor the situation after the demolition exercise was met with a hostile reception.

Police told the public that they are not allowed to get involve or spark any problem.

The KHY issue got heated up following a Court Order for the property owners to vacate the site.

However, on Friday a letter of the Enforcement Act released by the Western Province through Lands Board Planning and Development was issued to stop any development activities on the area.

However, Police and the local contractor disregarded the Letter of the Enforcement Act issued on Friday and allow the demolition exercise to go ahead based on the court order.

Even the Sheriff of the High Court was seen removing the notice at the Waterfront’s front door on Friday to allow the local contractor to dismantle the building.

The situation in Gizo remained tense as of last night as a result of the demolition exercise carried out as of Saturday.
