ANZ on Wednesday announced that it will waive fees for International Money Transfers into Vanuatu, as relief efforts continue following the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Pam.

The fee waiver will apply to fund transfers made before 30 April 2015 by ANZ customers in 22 countries across Australasia, Asia and the Pacific*.

ANZ last week announced the donation of AUD70,000 (approx. VUV5,800,000) to the Vanuatu Red Cross Appeal Fund to support relief efforts in Vanuatu, and also a customer assistance package that included, among other things, suspended home loan, personal loan and small loan repayments for 60 days.

ANZ branches were affected by the cyclone, but the bank continues to offer limited banking services from a disaster recovery site in Port Vila as well as the Luganville branch on Vanuatu’s northern island of Espiritu Santo.

ANZ CEO Vanuatu, Charles Rickey, said: “We want to help the Vanuatu community get back on its feet as quickly as possible by supporting financial contributions and outreach efforts from our customers in Australasia and Asia-Pacific.”

ANZ has had a presence in Vanuatu since 1971 and is the country’s largest bank with two branches, 16 ATMs and some 150 staff nationwide servicing over 30,000 retail and corporate customers.
