Central Island victory forfeited

10 January 2019
A Guadalcanal U16 player breaks through two Central Islands players.

Central Islands U-16 team 3-2 victory against Guadalcanal was forfeited for fielding in over aged player.

This means Guadalcanal received free three points despite their defeat.

This was confirmed by the Solomon Islands Football federation (SIFF) on Tuesday.

The SIFF office has made it clear to all participating teams prior to the start of the Solomon Cup U16 tournament to produce each player’s birth certificate.

Any team fielding an over aged player will be forfeited.

SIFF is now taking a tough stand on the players’ age when organizing its competitions.

Recently there have been complaints about over aged players competing in the U16 tournament.

The forfeiting of Central Islands will be a good example to other provincial teams.

Matches will continue today at the SIFF Academy football field.
