Patron of the Honiara Golf Club is supporting the initiative taken by the Golf Federation to introduce the Pikinini golf development program.

Sir Paul Tovua stressed this during the launching of the Pikinini Golf and official handing over of 5 kids golf set and donation of $5000 from the Consular of Malaysia in the Solomon Islands to the Golf Federation over the weekend.

The handing over ceremony took place at the Honiara Golf Club.

“Pikinini Golf has been missing in our club’s competitions,” Sir Paul said.

He, therefore, thanked the president of the Golf Federation Mr. Lionel Kiara and his executive for the great initiative to introduce pikinini golf in Honiara.

“But we can’t have it without the equipment donated to the federation by Consular of Malaysia His Excellency Mr. Hii,’’ he said.

“Therefore, please convey my sincere thank you and appreciation to Mr. Hii for this worthwhile donation.

Sir Paul also pointed out that many of the golfers now are getting old and are taking the sport for part-time and social purposes.

“I think many of us here are too old, we only do this just for part-time because we want to exercise and hit the ball.”

He challenged the kids and their parents who attended the Pikinini golf launching to take the sport seriously.

“Some of the best golfers today started their golf career in early ages like those of you kids who are here tonight.

“Therefore with these few words, I would like to encourage us, parents, to help our kids.

“If you are members of this club, your children must also be part of this club.

“We are supposed to be a family club.

“Give them (kids) time and a chance to play this sport.

“And those of you that can coach, please pass on your experiences to our kids.”

He also said as patron of the club he was very encouraged to saw a good number of kids who attended the Pikinini golf launching.

“I am also happy to see the federation and the club embarks on this pikinini program.”

He also added; now that the program is being launched his grandchildren will definitely participate in the pikinini development program.
