ORGANISERS of the annual Easter Fun Run has announced that the 2021 event is being delayed until Whit Monday – 24th May 2021.

The Rotary Club of Honiara issued the statement on Wednesday.

The Rotary Club which is the main organiser of the event each stated it had received permission from the Covid Oversight Committee to hold the event, however, due to the added requirements required for such a large event, The Rotary Club needed a longer organising time.

Groups, companies, organisations can prepare to send their teams for the new date of Monday 24th May.

Teams can register through DJ Graphic outlets. T-shirts with their logos can also be ordered through DJ Graphics.

Rotary looks forward to large participation in the fun run – a great community activity.

All monies raised go to the Rotary charities, including donations in kind, sending sick babies and children to Australia and New Zealand for life-saving operations (ROMAC program) Rotary again Malaria (clean village program), and many other initiatives to improve the lives of Solomon Islanders

Honiara Rotary Club meets each Tuesday evening at 5.30 pm Honiara Hotel.

Last year the event could not be held due to the COVID-19 restriction.

Meanwhile, after two years of absence on the national Athletics calendar, the Easter road race is finally back.

The Honiara Athletics Association confirmed the return of the Easter road race.

Solomon Islands Athletics Federation, Nelson Kabitana, said the race will be at 4 pm this Saturday, April 3rd starting at Bishop’s Del, West Honiara, and will end at the Lawson Tama stadium. 

Athletics associations likely to compete are a Western athletic association, Markira/Ulawa, Central, Malaita, Guadalcanal, and Honiara City.

Athletics Solomon encourages expats who wish to participate to come forward and fill forms to participate.

The Easter road race is one of the federation’s events to identify elite and potential athletes for the National training team.

Athletes selected from this event will undergo training for upcoming international and regional competitions.

Hosting the Easter road race is the first event on the athletics federation’s calendar.
