Basketball is one of the unfamiliar sports in the country, most people and schools are not playing it.
SIBF President Cyril Rachman highlighted this statement during the recent MASI/PACMAS Sports Journalists workshop in Honiara.
“We have talked with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development to introduce basketball sport in schools,” he said.
He said basketball should be drafted into the education system.
“Basketball helps students to concentrate, so when they played it they can concentrate on their studies, because when you don’t concentrate when playing the game the ball will hurt you if someone throw it to you without you knowing it,” he said.
He added that basketball can relief stress and make students keep fit and healthy.
Rachman man said that basketball can be played at home at the backyard.
“If you have a court at your back yard you can play it,” he said.
He said don’t look at basketball as a game but a part of your health.
Currently SIBF is facing venue problem to do their training.
Solomon Islands started introducing basketball way back in 1987.
