United ousted

15 April 2015

Western United FC’s hope of advancing further into the second stage of the Fiji Airways Oceania Club Champions League has diminished after they lost 3-0 to the defending champions, Auckland City FC of New Zealand on Tuesday.

United after the match still has a glimmer of hope remaining as it awaits the result of the second match between Amicale FC and Suva FA.

A win for Suva could give United a chance to advance further that was they must defeat Suva in the final group game and hopefully Auckland City defeats Amicale FC.

However the result was in favour of Amicale 3-2 which then confirmed that United has no chances left.

United did put up a good fight against the defending champions keeping them scoreless for the full first half.

It was later in the second half that City bagged their three goals, a double by Darren White with the help of the third by Takuya Iwata.

Similar to their opening match against Vanuatu’s Amicale FC, they had their chances but again failed to utilize.

Naka was again the man with the chances, but with the pressure slowly building on their side and the tough defense line-up of Auckland City it was for most of the game time quite tough for United to concede a goal.
