RNZI: Star striker confirms he is going to play for Fiji in the Nations Cup in PNG

Wellington Phoenix striker Roy Krishna admits it’s been a bit of a frustrating season but he’s happy to finally be back on the field and slowly returning to full fitness.

The 28 year-old injured his ankle in January but returned off the bench against Melbourne City two weeks ago before starting in last weekend’s 4-1 thrashing by Melbourne Victory.

Krishna has netted six goals this A-League season and says while his scoring touch hasn’t returned yet he can see light at the end of the tunnel.

“Injuries are feeling much better now – maybe after games it’s kind of tight but that’s usual, you know.

“My physio told me that it’s going to be there for another couple of months and then (like) before it’s going to be really good but no it feels much stronger and good,” he said.

Roy Krishna is a key figure in Fiji’s Olympic team that will play in Rio in August.

He plans to have a bit of a break first before turning his attention to the national team.

“Any player’s dream is to play in one of the lifetime opportunities so it will be a great feeling and I’m looking forward to it…I think they’re doing well at the moment and they’re in camp so I can’t wait to go back.

“I think I’m going to join them when they get back from Brazil – they’re going on the 25th of this month for 12 days to play some friendlies over there and then when they get back I’ll join them for camp for the Nations Cup (in Papua New Guinea),” he said.
