Fiji Times - HEAVY rain in the Capital City on Saturday forced the Suva Football Association management to postpone all its local league fixtures yesterday.

Ten games were supposed to be played at Buckhurst and Bidesi parks but more rain forecast for this week meant they would now play their games at a later date.

Association vice president, Niranjan Prasad said they didn't want teams to play in unfavourable weather.

"Due to the heavy downfall here in the Capital city, we had to postpone all our games," he said.

"Player safety is important and this move was made to make sure their safety comes first rather than losing them to injury."

He said ground conditions would have deteriorated after the first game.

"Since we are playing 10 games — five games on each ground on the same day, the ground surface would worsen and cause huge disappointment if players were injured at the end of the day.

"There are always pools of water on the ground and it's quite risky to play in"

Prasad had assured that the local league competition would resume when the weather allowed them to and all clubs would be informed accordingly.
