Hekari United leads Group C

14 April 2015

SUVA, (FIJI TIMES) - Hekari United with a 3-2 win over Tafea leads Group C of the Fiji Airways Oceania Champions League.

The Papua New Guinea team, which has three points are equal level on points with New Zealand team Wellington FC but Hekari has a better goal forward meaning they are in the lead.

These two teams will go head to head on Wednesday and must win the game as teams also battle for the best second qualifier as only one spot is available when the Group C matches resume.

Tahiti champions AS Tafea who were unlucky against Team Wellington have zero and so do Vanuatu's Tafea FC.

The Champions League has three groups or pools. The winners or the team with the most points qualifies automatically to the semi-finals.

The one remaining spot goes to the team, which is the best second finisher.

All teams that finish second will have their points compared and the best one gets the remaining place in the semi-final. This itself makes the competition more intense.

Champions League games will resume tomorrow.

In Group A, Men in Black Ba FC takes on Lupe Ole Soaga at 4.30pm tomorrow afternoon at Gonvind Park. Ba would be looking for their second win but the Samoans are a surprise package.

In the second match at Govind Park, Gaitcha takes on Pirae at 7pm.

At the ANZ Stadium, Auckland City will face Western United at 4pm while Suva takes on Amicale at 7pm.
