Athletics Fiji out to monitor Coca Cola Games

22 April 2015

SUVA, ( FIJI TIMES) - Athletic who perform well in this weekend's Coca-Cola Games will be considered for national duties at the coming Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea, says Athletics Fiji president Joe Rodan Sr.

Since his appointment at the helm of Athletics Fiji nine months ago, Rodan and his team compiled a database of star athletes who performed well in all the secondary school zones meet.

He said these athletes would again be monitored during the Coke Games.

“We will consider those athletes that performed exceptionally well during the Fiji Finals to try out a spot in the national team,” said Rodan Sr.

“We have records of all athletes that performed well during the zone meet throughout the country and we will be monitoring them at the Coca-Cola Games.

“We will try and identify new talents during the games and groom them for the future."

Rodan said the board had set out a four-year strategic plan with the aim to lift the standard of the sport.

“Athletics Fiji has just selected a new set of executives who have the passion and hearts for the sport and we have drawn out a four-year strategic plan to bring the sport back on top.

“We had a very capable leader who have passion for the sport and backed by the experience qualified people who are also committed in moving the sport forward.

“So the mission is to identify new talents during the Coke Games and consider them for national duties."

Some of the school athletes who will be under the Fiji Athletics radar are Natabua High School students Batinisavu Uluiyata and Waisale Dausoko.

These two have been included in the Fiji team for the Pacific Games and are expected to stamp their mark during the competition.
The two-day Fiji Finals will be held at the ANZ Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
