Goff Praises Fiji 7s Win

SUVA, (FIJI SUN) - The Vodafone Fijian 7s team received praise from New Zealand parliamentarian Phil Goff.

The former New Zealand Minister of Defence  not only congratulated the Vodafone Fijians 7s  for winning the Glasgow 7s last weekend.

But said the game really brought together the Fijians and the NZ delegation who are in the country to observe the parliament sitting.

“It was really good to see the New Zealand delegation bringing great unity to the Fijian Parliament when everybody applauded the victory of the Fijian 7s over New Zealand,” Goff said.

“But congratulations to the Fiji team and also congratulations to Fiji, I’ve been in Fiji in good times and bad times.

“I hope this is a good time where we can celebrate the re-establishment of democracy and a new start for Fiji.”

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fijian 7s team will be going into the final leg Sevens World Series in London with a renewed focus.

Coach Ben Ryan is gunning for the World Series title after coming out victorious in Scotland, Ryan revealed on his Twitter page that they will now forget about Scotland.

“A brilliant weekend, thank you Glasgow,” he said.

“Time to press (the) reset button now and put everything into the final six games of the season, full steam ahead.”

Fiji beat New Zealand in the final 24-17 to  top the series with a total of 147 points, South Africa (142) and New Zealand on 139.

The team arrived in London, on Monday and was hosted by Eye Respect, London’s independent eyewear and sunglass boutique where each of the players were given sunglasses of their choosing.

Fiji is in Pool A along with Canada, Argentina and Pacific rivals Samoa.
