Cricket PNG launches girls’ empowerment programme

23 March 2016

PORT MORESBY, ( THE NATIONAL) --- Cricket Papua New Guinea officially launched the Girls Empowerment Through (GET) Kriket programme for the year at Amini Park this month on International Women’s Day.

After a successful first year of the GET Kriket programme last year, CPNG will once again join forces with the Australian Government and the International Cricket Council (ICC) using cricket as a vehicle to empower high school girls across the country.

The main aim of the GET Kriket programme is to increase female participation in playing hard ball cricket and empower young girls through educational sessions.

“We are proud to launch the GET Kriket programme for this year,” Kriket Blo Olgeta coordinator Susan Komang said.

“The International Women’s Day is a global celebration where we commemorate to show respect, appreciation and love towards women.

“This programme will give opportunities for young women in this country to not only learn the game of cricket but also learn life skills, promoting important social awareness issues,” she said. CPNG will join forces with key partners in PNG to deliver the education sessions.

The key partners are Institute for Business Studies, Anglicare, NCD Taekwondo, NCD Health Nutrition, Marie Stopes and the Coalition for Change PNG.
