Kurukuru show their class

11 February 2016

OUR young Kurukuru guns are two matches away from a fourth Futsal World Cup birth in Columbia this year.

On Wednesday, they showed they class when they demolished the highly fancied Futsal Whites of New Zealand4-1,to keep their world cup dreams alive.

Their winning streak started since Monday, when they silenced archrival Tahiti 3-0 and humbled the New Caledonians in a 5-1 battering on Tuesday.

Their game against New Zealand yesterday was dubbed the “match of the tournament”.

By beating an opponent of Futsal Whites’ calibre, our young stars have proven once again that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Now, they have just Vanuatu and Fiji standing in their way.

They meet Vanuatu this afternoon before taking on hosts Fiji tomorrow.

The road may now appeared smoother, but the Kurukurus are not taking any chances.

As their Brazilian coach Juliano Antonia Schmeling earlier stated, they will be treating every match as final.

So whether they are playing against a stronger or weaker opponent, every game is a game.

There will be no complacency until the final whistle.

We wish our boys all the best in their remaining two matches and we believe they’ll go all the way.

This current team of Kurukuru players should give us an excellent model on how to develop our national teams.

They started together as juniors and make their way up to the senior level as a team.

Because they’ve been together since their younger days, they knew each other well and understand their format of playing.

They’ve now matured and are at their peak. They are a group of highly skilled players who on three previous regional championships brought the nation much pride.

After a gruelling three days of competition, and winning all three games, the boys are two matches away from booking their tickets to Colombia.

With the high level of performance and skills displayed so far, no one will doubt the qualities and capabilities of Kurukuru winning the OFC championship for the fourth time.

All the best for the two remaining games.

Go Kurukuru go; go Solo go!
